Niche blogging is very popular among bloggers nowadays. It is the act of maintaining a blog with contents that cater to a specific niche market. This type of blogging has stemmed from one’s desire to serve the particular market using the latest information about the product or service being blogged about. Blogs of this type are of higher standards than those with too many categories.
Before you start niche blogging
Before you decide on what market to write about, you first must ask yourself the following questions before venturing into niche blogging:
1. Is this the topic that you really want?
You cannot really force yourself into writing about something in which you have little interest in. Blogging is not just about maintaining a site; it is a prolonging of one’s passion for that which is being discussed.
You first need to know which topic you are really interested in. Identify your interests and your motivation to continue researching or writing about the topic. Yes, you might at first be tempted to begin blog about what you think other people like, but in the end, it all goes down to what you fully know and like.
In additional, you need to clearly answer the question that “Are You Blogging for Money or a Passion?“, I know this maybe important when your chosen niche, the niche which you want to write about, can’t bring back a decent amount of cash. You must have a passion with your Niche to keep moving forward and I don’t want that you will give up one day.
2. Are people interested in this topic?
Your strong passion for what you blog about would simply prove futile if people would not care about it. Blogs that have been in existence for a long time have been products of commitment not just from the blogger, but also from its audience.
Niche blogging involves knowing what internet-users actually want to read. If, for example, you are going to write on film, then ask yourself which of its aspects people find more interesting. Majority of readers might be more inclined to read film reviews rather than deep critical shot-by-shot analysis of a movie.
As what I saw, the more people interested in the niche, the more profit you can make, and these niches usually are: women’s beauty, baby care, animal training, healthcare, job seeking, making money online, dating… (2011)
3. Will you able to come up with enough content?
You as the blogger must be able to know in advance if you are going to be able to continue updating your blog with fresh content. There are two ways of answering this question:
- First, you need to know if your chosen niche is currently active in the market or in the society, with hundreds of new information published every day.
- Second, you need to know if you yourself are prepared to blog. Analyze whether or not blogging will affect your daily lifestyle.
So, how do you know if the niche is still active? Looking for relative blogs on that niche would be a nice idea (How fresh content do they have? how about people take part in comment section?…)
Focus on your Niche
Those being said, it is important to focus on niche blogging without being distracted with other topics to write about. Note that your readers are easily turned off if at one point you will post about something that is not related to the entire market of your blog.
The following are reasons why you will need to center your attention on your topic of choice:
1. Readers tend to return to niche blogs.
Brand loyalty happens when a product, in this case, your blog, continues to provide its consumers (the readers) with quality services (your posts). Make sure you post good content each day. Most visitors judge a website based on their first visit, so it is important for the blog to leave a good impression on them so they would be able to return at one point.
2. Niche blogging is easier.
Yes, having a multi-topic blog is more hassle-free in terms of content, niche blogs are simpler and more adaptable, since you already have a focused topic to write about.
3. Advertisers also tend to attach themselves to blogs with a specific market.
Since readers are already loyal to you and your posts, then the advertisers will consider your blog to be a part of their marketing strategy to expand their followers. Not only that, but this type of blogs is easier to monetize compared to multi-topic sites. Since monetization involves the integration of advertisements and the addition of text links, advertises will look at your niche as an ideal source of customers.
4. Easier to monetize your blog
Speaking of advertisers and monetization, blogging for a niche market is also an ideal way for you yourself to sell products. If, for example, you blog about knitting, then why not sell your knitted products to your loyal customers? Since you already have gained enough readers, then there surely will be one or two people who would be willing to buy things from you.
5. Better search results ranking
One of the most important factors of niche blogging is the search engine. Search engines love niche blogs. These engines’ main goal is to provide their users with the most useful results whenever possible.
Because of this, it is best to update your website on a regular basis so that sites such as Google or Yahoo are able to distinguish it as one of the leading blogs pertaining to the market.
If, on the other hand, there are competitors, the search engines would pick among the list which of the sites is worthy to be on the top results, so it is best not only to update regularly but to fare better in terms of content as well.
… And don’t forget your readers
There are also a number of things to remember whenever you are blogging on a niche market. Your readers are, of course, the most important part of this activity. Without them, it would look like you are just talking to yourself. In order to gain readers, you must make it a point to actively participate in the web activity happening around your niche market. Do not hesitate to mingle with other people online as long as you share the same interests.
For example, you are blogging about food, then try registering to online forums that cater to food enthusiasts. Make sure that the forum is highly reputable and has a high amount of registered users. Once you have gained other people’s attention through your posting of opinions, try placing a link to your blog on your profile signature. This is one of the easiest ways to get readers. By proving to a lot of people that you are knowledgeable on a specific topic, then you will find niche blogging an easy and fun activity to do :)
